Advantage Credit Counseling Service, Inc. approved for bankruptcy counseling

PITTSBURGH — Advantage Credit Counseling Service, Inc. (ACCS) and Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Western Pennsylvania (CCCS) have been approved by the Executive Office for U. S. Trustees to provide pre-filing bankruptcy counseling to those consumers who intend to file bankruptcy under the new bankruptcy law. A key provision under the new law stipulates that consumers must receive mandatory credit counseling six months prior to filing bankruptcy.

“We are pleased to have been selected to provide the necessary counseling to those who intend to file bankruptcy,” said ACCS President and CEO Stephen Piotrowski. “It is a testament to the hard work and quality service that our agency employees provide to those in need” Piotrowski said.

Agencies interested in providing pre-filing bankruptcy counseling had to apply to the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees for approval. According to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, “the criteria set forth by the Executive Office reflects a very strong commitment…to ensure that the counseling and education provisions are substantive in nature and of the highest quality.” The new bankruptcy law takes effect October 17.

CCCS of Western PA, a division of Advantage Credit Counseling Service, is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1968. The agency is a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, the umbrella association for over 150 CCCS agencies nationwide.
