PITTSBURGH—Consumers who file bankruptcy under the new bankruptcy law will be able to meet the educational requirement by attending a seminar conducted by the Advantage Credit Counseling Service, Inc.  ACCS has been selected by the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees to provide the pre-discharge education required under the new bankruptcy law.  The new bankruptcy law mandates that consumers complete a financial education seminar before their bankruptcy can be discharged. 

 

“Advantage Credit Counseling will be a “one-stop shopping” agency for those consumers who file bankruptcy after October 17, 2005,” said ACCS President and CEO Stephen Piotrowski.  “The employees of Advantage Credit Counseling are prepared to assist the filers by providing the same first class service that we have been providing as an agency since 1967. This is the first time in history that a federal law includes requirements for financial counseling and education. We are proud to have been selected to provide the necessary education to those in need,” Piotrowski said.

 

Approval for providing pre-discharge education comes after a long and rather detailed application process.
