Financial Warning Signs
Like a summer storm, financial trouble can happen without much warning. Perhaps you’re in financial trouble and have no idea. Take a moment to ask yourself the following questions:
- Do you run out of money before payday?
- Do you make only the minimum required payments on your credit card bills?
- Do you charge items that you used to pay for with cash?
- Do you avoid going to the doctor or dentist because you can’t afford to pay for it?
- Do you and your spouse argue about money and bills?
- Do you write post-dated checks?
- Do you pay your utility bills inconsistently?
- Do bill collectors call you?
- Are you experiencing a significant loss of family income and you’re trying to make up the difference by taking cash advances on your credit cards or you’re opening new credit card accounts?
- Do your monthly payments to creditors (excluding mortgage) total more than 20% of your take-home pay?
- Do you avoid totaling the amount of your outstanding debt?
If you answered “yes” to any of these warning signs it is likely that you are experiencing financial difficulty. It is time to get some help.
