Energy Saving Tips

If you are looking for ways to cut energy costs, these ideas may help get you started. Match pots to burner size and use tight-fitting lids on them to save energy. For gas ranges, keep the flame touching the bottom of the pan; any flame around or above the bottom of the pan is wasted energy. Turn electric burners off shortly before serving.

Reduce the amount of hot water you use by washing clothes in warm or cold water. Wash only full loads and set the water level according to load size. Be sure the dryer is vented to the outdoors. Clean the dryer’s lint filter after each load. Try not to overload or under load your washer or dryer.

Only use the dishwasher for a full load of dishes. Turn the dishwasher off at the end of the rinse cycle and open the door to let dishes air dry instead of using the dry cycle. Avoid overloading the fridge since air needs to circulate inside. Putting warm foods in the fridge can cause it to work harder.
