Don’t Miss Out On Free Consumer Credit Reports

Blog Home

Individuals who think they are too busy to inquire about getting free consumer credit reports or that looking at their credit report at least once a year isn’t important, are missing out on something very essential to their financial health. It only takes a few minutes to request a free copy of an individual’s credit report. Every consumer is entitled to request a copy absolutely free of charge from each of the three main credit reporting bureaus once a year. Making sure that the information found on an individual’s credit report is accurate is very important because it can affect whether or not a consumer can get additional credit, as well as affect the interest rates for loans on essential purchases such as a house or car. The 2003 Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act makes it possible for every individual to be able to obtain free consumer credit reports by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com.

By following just a few simple steps, any consumer can access a free copy of their credit report. The credit report is an important financial document that gives a picture of how an individual handles borrowing and paying back money from places that issue credit such as banks, savings and loan organizations, department stores, credit card issuers, and automobile dealers. Since free credit reports are not automatically sent to consumers, every individual who wants to take advantage of seeing their copy on an annual basis must initiate the request themselves. The best official starting point is by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com which serves as the only authorized place to request FREE credit reports from each of the three major agencies: Experian, Equifax and TransUnion.

Any consumer who does not have access to a computer or the Internet can call toll-free at 1-877-322-8228 and speak to a representative to receive their free reports. A third safe way to request one or all three of the credit reports an individual is entitled to receive each year is by mailing a completed form that appears on the back of the Annual Credit Report Request brochure and sending it by first class mail to Annual Credit Report Request Service located at P.O. Box 105283 in Atlanta, Georgia, 30348-5283. In order to avoid incurring any charges for credit reports, it’s important that the consumer use one of the above three methods and make their request through the authorized central agency rather than approaching each of the credit reporting agencies individually.
